Class RulesFollowing our 5 class rules will ensure we have a great second grade year!
1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Listen carefully and do your personal best. 3. Be considerate of others in and outside of the classroom. 4. Respect yourself, others, and property. (Be kind with your words and actions.) 5. Complete and turn in all assignments/materials on time. Classroom Behavior PlanI have a positive behavior plan put in place in room 4. We use Classroom Dojo daily. Students earn positive points for good behaviors like participating in class, completing tasks on time, being respectful, and more. These points are 'cashed out' on Fridays for Wildcash.
Students use Wildcash to purchase items, rewards, and special coupons from the office and classroom stores. HomeworkStudents are expected to read at home daily.
I will occasionally send home extra practice pages. These are not homework, but students can do them and turn them in for Wildcash. Students who do NOT complete classroom work in class, will have to complete it at home as homework. Specials RotationMonday- Art
Tuesday- Library Wednesday- Changes each week Thursday-Gym Friday- Music Your child must have or wear tennis shoes on gym days and bring their library books for library. Birthday Treats!Due to our corporations healthy foods policy, I have adopted the following choices for your child when it comes to their birthday treat. Your child may choose to bring in a healthy prepacked store-bought treat or one of these for each student (a pencil, stickers, eraser, etc).
Reading Fluency (WPM)Second graders, reading levels J-M+, should be able to correctly read 90-120 words in 1 minute in an unfamiliar text.
Small Reading GroupsEvery student is assigned a small reading group based on their ability.
As your reading ability grows, the group they are in will change. Students should be reading every day for 20 minutes. |
